Kiducation Bin
The Kiducation Bin located by the recycling dumpster is a fundraiser that will benefit the Home and School as well as needy children around the country. You may place used clothing in the bin and the company will come and collect your clothes. The company sends a percentage of the clothes back to the Home and School. Another way we are giving back while making our school better.
New Computer Sites for all to USE
I am excited to let parents of students in grades 3 to 8 that I have created an account at http://glenolden.typingclub.com/ . This web based site lets students practice keyboarding. They are part of a school effort to improve their skills. It is free. This website provided feedback to the student as well as myself on their progress. Please ask your child about it. All students should have logged in and created their account by the end of April. Their log on will be exactly like studyisland log in. User name is first.last-glen and their password is their lunch account number.
Another additional website for students grade 6 through 8th is a follow up from career day, a guest speaker who was exciting and encouraging about Game Maker websites. The website http://gamestarmechanic.com is an awesome site that students have been introduced to during computer class. The get to learn the skills involved in creating games by taking a quest, then going into the workshop and final publishing their game and playing each other's games. We hope this provides an opportunity for students to try their skill and learning all about one of their favorite activities while using higher-order thinking skills. It is a free account setup for Glenolden School.
Now that PSSA testing is finished I didn't want to loose momentum. Therefore, www.jognog.com is a great site to continue to practice skills they need all the way to college. It is easy and free. Enjoy using this site. Hopefully before the end of April students in grades 2 to 8 will have been introduced to the site and created an account.
Any questions about any of these sites, how do to use them, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Reading Connection in May
Study Island is BACK!!!
WHAT IS STUDY ISLAND?
Study Island is an instructional and diagnostic tool that enables teachers to help students master the state standards and prepare for their state tests. Right now this is for grades 3 to 8. Later in the year we will add grades 1 and 2. The more time students spend using the Study Island program, the better they will understand the material for their respective grade level. Students can access Study Island from any computer that is connected to the Internet.
It is web-based instruction, practice, assessment and reporting built for Pennsylvania standards rigorous academic content that is both fun and engaging, research-based with proven results for all students, easy to use (in the lab, classroom, library or home).
Students can play in practice mode or game mode, math, reading, and science and core standard topics.
